The Tubotel Langkawi is a budget hotel with a twist, set on the beautiful Malaysian island of Langkawi. [REVIEW] Tubotel Hotel, Langkawi
Langkawi is a favorite holiday destination among both Malaysian and international tourists, and one is spoiled for choice when it comes to choosing an accommodation. However, only a few places stand out on the island in terms of being unique, and Tubotel is one of them. Owned and run by Alex, an Austrian, and his wife Kookie, Tubotel is a concept hotel that was inspired by Dasparkhotel, a creation of architect Andy Stauss.
Tubotel Langkawi: A destination hotel worth travelling to
I believe I have only ever been to Langkawi three times in my life. Once as a teen with my family, once a couple years back over the Raya holidays with some close friends and the most recent trip with my fiance and best friend. Each time was a vastly different experience. As a teen, I wanted to try alcohol and my mother indulged me the privilege of underage drinking just to void the novelty.
Tubotel? Don’t Be Square Lah!
Tubotel is located just north of Pantai Cenang out on the base of the breakwater for the Langkawi Lagoon. The original Boat Quay building is still there but simply renovated to offer the budget traveler a comfortable and welcoming environment. It’s also within walking distance of Pantai Cenang across the river bridge and through the small kampung.
My Malaysia: Tubotel Langkawi (Review)
I’ve always had a thing for unique hotels — jungle abodes, glass igloos, tree houses, underwater rooms. I wish I could visit as many of these interesting places as I can, but some will of course, take time to reach. I recently stayed at a room made from drainage pipes in Sungai Lembing (read about it here: Time Capsule Retreat), and when I heard there was another such place in Langkawi, I just had to check it out. It’s called the Tubotel.
